Money that may be owed to you

Checked Sunday, September 13, 2026 · every one of these is free · never pay anyone a cut to claim your own money

Straight up first

I found 0 confirmed records in your name today — and not because there aren't any. California's unclaimed property site and MissingMoney.com both refused to load from my machine (they block the kind of network I browse from). Those two searches are the biggest items here and they're unrun. They take you about 90 seconds each on your phone. Everything else below I verified live today.

Top 3 — today

1. California Unclaimed Property

Old bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, utility and rental deposits, insurance refunds. The state holds them forever and the search is free.

2. Nonbank ATM surcharge settlement — $167.5M

Anyone in the US who paid a fee to pull cash from an independent ATM (corner store, gas station, club) with a Visa debit card between Oct 24 2007 and Aug 14 2026, and wasn't reimbursed by their bank. That's probably you, many times.

3. Tax refunds you never claimed

Any year you had a W-2 and didn't file, your withholding is sitting with the IRS and the state. This is usually the biggest number on this page.

The rest, best value first

4. MissingMoney.com — the other states

One search covers most US states, in case you ever banked or worked outside California. Free, no SSN to search.

5. California wage claim — if a job ever shorted you

Free, no lawyer. Unpaid wages, a late or missing final paycheck, unpaid overtime, missed breaks. A late final paycheck alone carries a waiting time penalty of up to 30 days of your daily pay — often over $1,000.

How to file →
Deadlines: 3 years for unpaid wages/overtime, 2 years on a verbal agreement, 4 on a written one — so anything since about Sept 2023 is live. Portal: cwcp.dir.ca.gov

6. Settlements open right now

Verified open today. Only file the ones that are actually true for you — every form is signed under penalty of perjury.

New ones open weekly: claimdepot.com (filter "No Proof") · classaction.org

7. Data breach settlements — start with your email

Put both your addresses into haveibeenpwned.com (free, 30 seconds each). Any company it names, search that name at classaction.org — breach settlements routinely pay $50–$150 flat plus documented losses.

8. Old 401(k) money

Long odds at 27, but free: Dept. of Labor Lost & Found · National Registry · PBGC.

9. Utility, cable and rental deposits

No separate site — companies hand these to the state, so they show up in search #1. LADWP, SoCalGas, Spectrum, an old apartment deposit: all covered there.

Rules I stuck to: legitimate claims only, no disputing anything you authorized, no fees ever, no SSN entered anywhere by me, no guessed addresses, no invented records. If a site asks for a percentage to "recover" your funds, it's a middleman — the state does it free.
